Amphetamine

  • Philip K. Dick was a heavy user of amphetamines - prescription tablets like Semoxydrin, Dexedrine and Benzedrine - throughout the late 60s up until 1972. At least some of his outbreaks of Paranoia? can be assumued side affects of speed usage.

LSD

  • Despite rumors to the contrary, to which PKD himself contributed somewhat, PKD was not a frequent LSD user. The few trips he took have however provided him some fundamental experiences (see quote above).

Vitamins

  • inspired by an article in Psychology Today experimented with doses water solvable vitamins in March 1974, among them Vitamin B3, B6, B2 and a massive dose of Vitamin C. As PKD wrote in the exegesis: "both [brain] hemispheres came on together, for the first time in my life."
